The Washington State Patrol says they are joining 11 other Western State agencies in a excess speed education and enforcement focus this weekend.

The efforts will run Friday through Sunday in advance of the July 4th weekend which is expected to see increases in travel on the road.

WSP Chief John Batiste says they, "Expect to see significant pent-up demand to get out and get back to our pre-pandemic lifestyle."

The 12 state patrol agencies say there has been a pandemic-era increase in speeding related accidents, most notably a surge in vehicles traveling 100 MPH or more.
