Two groups of Wenatchee High School students totaling 7-9 kids were part of a peaceful anti-mask demonstration at the high school Thursday morning.

District Communications Director Diana Haglund said the district and its teachers are still required to follow the state's masking mandate for schools.

"When approached by our building leaders and given the option to either stay and wear a mask or leave, the students chose to leave campus," stated Haglund.

Haglund added that staff understand that, given Governor Inslee's announcement Wednesday that he will be naming a date for the end of the state-wide school mask mandate, some people are excited about a maskless future. She asked the community for patience while school districts around the state wait for more guidance.

Roughly 9 adults were also outside of the high school on the sidewalk protesting the continued mask mandate.
