Wenatchee Valley College to Feature Writers Kay Kenyon, Michelle Peñaloza Tuesday

There will be a Wenatchee Valley College Visiting Writers Series reading on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 2 p.m. in The Grove Recital Hall, WVC Music and Art Center (MAC). Readers will include novelist Kay Kenyon and poet Michelle Peñaloza. The reading is free and open to the public.

The writers will be working with WVC students that morning prior to the reading and book signing.

Kenyon is the author of fourteen science fiction and fantasy novels as well as numerous short stories. Her work has been shortlisted for the Philip K. Dick and the John W. Campbell Memorial Awards, the Endeavour Award, and twice for the American Library Association Reading List Awards. Her novels include the “The Entire and the Rose” series, “Bright of the Sky,” “A World Too Near,” “City Without End,” “Prince of Storms, Maximum Ice” and “The Braided World. Bright of the Sky.” She is a founding member of the Write on the River conference in Wenatchee, Wash., where she lives with her husband.

The proud daughter of Filipino immigrants, Peñaloza is author of “Former Possessions of the Spanish Empire,” winner of the 2018 Hillary Gravendyk National Poetry Prize. “Former Possessions of the Spanish Empire” explores grief and violence, the intersections of race, gender, and sexuality, and the complications of desire. She is also the author of two chapbooks, “landscape/heartbreak” and “Last Night I Dreamt of Volcanoes.”

Parking for the poetry workshop and reading will be free in the MAC lot and Lot D (off of Nelson St., near Wells House). Handicap parking is available in the MAC lot. This event is sponsored by the WVC English department, Associated Students of WVC, Icicle Creek Center for the Arts, Write on the River and WVC Foundation.
