A fundraiser that doubles as a duathlon exemplifies the Wenatchee Panthers community spirit. The Panthalon will feature Wenatchee High School athletes from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, October 19 at the high school track and pool. WHS cross country runners and girls' swim and dive will be participating in the event and are inviting the community to also come out and pay it forward.

"The event will start at 9 at the WHS track, where the cross country runners will be running 3 miles. After they run, swimmers will be swimming one mile in the pool," said Kelly Norland, ASB president and a founder of the event.

There will be a hot cocoa stand along with baked goods and proceeds from that will also trickle into the donation.

"People will be buying tickets to see divers do flips or belly flops," said Sierra Hartley, WHS junior. "It's a great way to get everyone together to do something really good for someone at WHS."

The fundraiser made its debut last year and managed to rack in $2,000 for the Lewis family. The goal for this year is to raise $5,000 for the anonymous family who has chosen to stay confidential.

"It's really fun to give back as athletes being that so many people have poured into us to make us the athletes and students that we are. So coming together to raise money together for someone at our high school just feels really right, it feels needed," said Norland. "All the athletes are so excited to do this."
