The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife announced Tuesday that all Eastern Washington wildlife areas managed by the WDFW will open for day use only starting Friday due to the increased fire risk and depleted firefighting resources.

According to a press release by the department, the closure will be in effect until conditions improve and apply to both motorized and on-foot users. Water access sites within wildlife areas are also included in the closure.

WDFW added that enforcement officers will be applying a zero-tolerance approach to members of the public who violate current restrictions.
