Chelan Valley Housing Trust Receives $650,000 in Pledges from Local and State Level

Chelan Valley Housing Trust was pledged a combined $650,000 over the span of 10 years from the city of Chelan, Chelan County, the state and the Lake Chelan Chamber of Commerce. The funding will be directed toward building affordable homes in a community pressed for housing, particularly the Anderson Road project.

A hefty chunk of the sum total came in the form of an infrastructure grant for $250,000 from the state capital budget and Goldie credits Representative Mike Steele for pushing that through.

"[The Anderson Road project] is probably upwards of a million dollar project to get that infrastructure out to that area," said Rachael Goldie, executive administrator. "The $250,000 will go towards that project so that we can eventually have homes out there that have access to city utilities."

Both the county and city pledged funding that isn't earmarked for anything in particular, such as infrastructure. Chelan County pledged $20,000 a year for the next three years with an additional 2 years tacked on based on CVHT's performance. The city of Chelan also pledged $20,000 per year over the course of five years.

"Our operational costs are very low, so most of it is going toward a land purchase," said Goldie. "A lot of it's just infrastructure, land, demoing if we need to do that first."

The chamber is providing $10,000 every year for ten years as well.

"This is such an absolutely necessary thing to be building affordable housing," said Goldie. "It's been such an inspiration to see our representatives really come forward and put money toward this and fulfill the promises they said they would."
