COVID-19 cases in the combined area of Chelan and Douglas counties have spiked to their highest rate since the pandemic began.

New cases reported Tuesday are up about 40 percent from a week earlier (1,311.9 per 100,000 over 14 days vs. 784.4 new cases per 100,000), and have risen nearly 75 percent over two weeks.

The previous high for COVID-19 cases in the area was set in August, as reported by the Chelan Douglas Health District.

Hospitalization levels are still far below previous highs, although fully vaccinated patients now outnumber people who aren't fully vaccinated by a large margin.

Confluence Health is reporting 21 people are hospitalized as of Tuesday, including 15 fully vaccinated and 6 not fully vaccinated.

Of the 17 patients in ICU, 13 are fully vaccinated.

The are 4 patients on ventilators, including 1 who is fully vaccinated and 3 who are not fully vaccinated.

Eight of the patients hospitalized are from Chelan County, followed by 5 from Douglas Count, 4 from Grant County and one each from Okanogan, Adams, Ferry and Stevens counties.
