Douglas County Fire District 5 Receives Grant Funding for Personal Protective Safety
Douglas County Fire District No. 5 recently received a grant award for roughly $4,600 from Northwest Farm Credit Services. The funding will enable the district to meet current personal protective safety requirements.
"It was a Rural Community grant for COVID-19 support that they established this year for the pandemic," said Chief Tyler Caille.
Chief Caille adds the district submitted the application in the midst of searching for ways to upgrade response jackets for EMS personnel that meet personal protective safety requirements.
"So when they go and contact patients they have a level of protection above and beyond their normal means," said Chief Caille. "But also something too, when they're out working on the highway, it meets all the requirements for reflectivity and roadway safety."
The district had tried other avenues to receive resources and were unsuccessful.
"It was something we were trying to do without impacting our current budget, which is minimal, and not affect our taxpayers who are our primary supporters at this time and keep the service moving forward," said Chief Caille.
