Everett Man Pleads Guilty to July Manson Fire
An Everett man that sparked a brush fire near Manson in July has pled guilty and been sentenced.
Our news partner iFIBER ONE reports that 18-year-old Michael Popov pled guilty to first-degree reckless burning Monday. He will served three days in jail along with being sentenced to 27 days of community service. He was also ordered to pay $37,218 in restitution.
Popov set off three mortars inside a roadside mailbox July 6th, which started a roughly 14-acre brush fire near Upper Creek Road and Grade Creek Road. It took several fire districts around four hours to contain the blaze which threatened nearby homes.
Popov was found driving a black Volkswagen on Grade Creek Road, where he was questioned and told deputies he checked the area for smoke after setting off the fireworks. Popov said he didn’t notice any smoke, and was arrested.
