An intensive investigation is still being conducted into the officer involved fatal shooting near the site of the Apple Blossom Festival last Saturday.

A man was shot dead by Wenatchee Police when he reportedly fired his gun at officers who were confronting him over shots he fired at the front door of a church.

Undersheriff Tyler Caille says detective are still trying to figure out how many shots were fired between police and the suspect.

"Total," said Caille. "From the start of the incident when the suspect was first observed at the church, up until even when law enforcement arrived. That is something they are currently and still actively working on."

Caille says detectives are also still exploring the man's background.

"They're trying to determine what history that individual had, and trying to determine if there was a direct motive, or was this a random incident," Caille said. "They've got to put all those pieces together. And unfortunately, there's a lot of people to contact. There's a lot of moving parts to that."

Detectives are also looking at a video of the shooting that was posted on social media this week, as well as other video sources such as police body cameras.

Officers plan to release the name of the dead man, as well as names of three officers on administrative leave from the shooting by Thursday.

The Special Investigative Unit that’s managing the case includes the Chelan and Douglas County Sheriff’s Offices, as well as the Washington State Patrol, and a Grant County Unit called the Central Basin Investigative Team.
