King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn will challenge 8th District Congressional incumbent Kim Schrier in the 2022 election.

He is currently the Republican Vice Chairman of the King County Council and has served on the council for 15 years.

Reagan Dunn, who's mother Jennifer Dunn represented the 8th District for six terms, studied law at the University of Washington before working for the U.S. Department of Justice and eventually becoming a prosecutor.

When Rob McKenna was elected to State Attorney General in 2005, Dunn was appointed to fill his seat. Dunn called McKenna a friend in a recent interview with NewsRadio 560 KPQ.

A poll released Monday by Moore Information showed Dunn not only handily beating his fellow Republican opponents, but also slightly edging out Schrier.

"More than half the (8th) Congressional District is in King County." said Dunn, "I've been reelected for four terms with an average reelection number of 65%. Kim Schrier, in order to win the 8th, needs to rack up the votes in King County and with me there she can't, because I block her because they're used to voting for me."

Dunn lives a few miles outside of Auburn in Covington but owns a second home in Cle Elum. His campaign is chaired by former seven-time 8th District Representative Dave Reichert.

The 8th District hopeful said he decided to run for Congress in 2022 because he's deeply concerned about the direction of the country.

Dunn would like to see more accountability for criminals, reform to the H2A visa system, less Congressional spending even in terms of infrastructure, and Dunn is vaccinated against COVID-19 but supports vaccine choice.
