Crews from Chelan County Fire District 3 and the DNR responded to a brush fire near the 11600 block of North Road in Leavenworth Monday afternoon.

Chief Kelly O'Brien says the 1/4 acre fire was located on a steep slope in heavy vegetation between an orchard road and Chumstick Creek.

"The cause was (the property owners) were burning last weekend and the fire must not have been put all the way out." explained O'Brien, "Some of the ash got into the duff and the wind made the fire spread."

It took firefighters about an hour and a half to contain the fire and the small blaze was in mop up by about 4:30 pm. There were no injuries nor property damage.

Fire personnel will go back to the scene tonight to check for smoke.
