Manweller Files State Income Tax Constitutional Amendment
Republicans in the State House have introduced a bill that would ban a state income tax by creating a constitutional amendment.
Ellensburg Representative Matt Manweller said this would settle the issue once and for all.
"The people have spoken repeatedly about an income tax. They’ve said ‘no’ every time. But I’m very nervous about the court which has been dropping this message that even though the income tax might be unconstitutional, they might be open to it. I dropped a constitutional amendment specifically banning income tax in the state of Washington.”
Manweller and other Republicans said the several failures to pass a state income tax indicate the state's residents unwillingness to consider it.
