The Miss East Cascades Scholarship Organization is inviting interested young women ages 17-25 to an orientation meeting this Sunday at noon at the Van Well Nursery in East Wenatchee.

Officials will be at the meeting to answer any questions potential candidates may have, and to introduce those in attendance to the benefits of the program.

2019 winner Jaylah Young said she competed for first time in 2017 with the goal of winning scholarships to help finish her associates degree.

"I definitely caught the pageant bug." Young explained, "I absolutely fell in love with what the Miss America organization has to offer, particularly on the local level with Miss East Cascades. I decided that it was really a goal of mine to be Miss East Cascades. To be a title holder and a role model in the community and continue to serve a community that has given me so much."

Young also stated that the pageant's format has changed significantly since she first competed in 2017.

"There is no swimsuit this year." continued Young, "So for anybody feeling that was holding them back, there is nothing to worry about this year and I'd say give it a shot."

The competition is broken down into four phases

-Private Interview (25%)

-Talent (40%)

-Evening Wear/Social Impact (20%)

-On-Stage Interview (15%)

This year's competition will be held March 21st at the Numerica Performing Arts Center in Wenatchee. The winner of Miss East Cascades will then vie for the title of Miss Washington in Renton at the end of June, and then potentially Miss America.

Candidates must be at least a high school senior, and live or work in Chelan, Douglas, Okanogan, Kittitas, or Grant counties.
