Three teenagers are safe after the car they were in caught fire and was destroyed Thursday afternoon on Burch Mountain Road.

The Chelan County Sheriff's Office says the teens were driving a family car up the mountain when flames started coming out from the hood.

Deputies say the 3 teenagers jumped from the car as it proceeded to go up in flames.

Fire crews put out the fire, while the car was severely charred.

Deputies says the car fire is responsible for the plume of smoke many people reported seeing on Burch Mountain.

In an Instagram comment, the Sheriff's Office also said it was also fortunate the fire did not occur during the peak of fire season in the summer.
