Officer Ivy Jacobsen Named Eastmont’s School Resource Officer

East Wenatchee police officer Ivy Jacobsen will be Eastmont School District's next School Resource Officer (SRO).

It's been over 10 years since the two entities partnered on an SRO program.

Chief Rick Johnson said Jacobsen was one of a group of East Wenatchee officers that took part in a competitive selection process involving several school administrators such as the high school and junior high principals, school security and representatives from the superintendent's office.

"They gave a presentation, answered questions and told them about their experiences and what their plan would be for implementing a School Resource Officer program at Eastmont," Johnson said.

Before joining the East Wenatchee police, Jacobsen spent her first four years with the Bothell Police Department. During her time in Bothell she became a certified Child Forensic Interview Specialist and was named the department's 2020 Officer of the Year.

She now must complete almost 100 hours of SRO-specific training and will start working in the schools in late March.

A new patrol officer will be hired to replace Jacobsen. Eastmont will pay East Wenatchee 60% of the nearly $135,000 average cost for an officer, or just over $80,000 annually.
