Red Cross Begging Donations Amid Severe Blood Shortage

The American Red Cross is reporting that, over the last several days and weeks, there has been a major increase in the demand for blood by hospitals and trauma centers.

Spokesperson Betsy Robertson said the amount of blood being requested across the country is at a pace well beyond what the Red Cross can supply.

"So we are putting out a call that there is a severe blood shortage." Robertson stated, "We need folks to respond by making an appointment to donate blood, and by following through."

The Red Cross is looking for all types of blood, especially O-type. Those that have received the COVID-19 vaccine can still give blood.

Anyone that donates now through June 30th will receive a $5 Amazon gift card.
