Soap Lake Police confirmed that they fired reserve officer Shane Jones after a DUI incident in Franklin County last week.

Sgt. Spencer Nulph also noted that despite Jones driving a department K9 vehicle, the dog in the car was his own and not the SLPD's K9 Billy.

"He did not have approval to deploy the dog for our agency. The dog wasn't even certified for patrol work yet because it had been a period of time where he would need to recertify to use the dog."

Jones was a K9 handler while with the Okanogan County Sheriff's Office.

Sgt. Nulph says the dog in the vehicle was from Jones' time at OCSO.

"We are currently going through everything we need to do to retrieve all of our equipment and get everything back from him as he's incarcerated. We're obviously not communicating with him, so we're using the proper channels to cut every single tie with him."

Nulph is the K9 officer for the Soap Lake Police Department which got Billy last summer.

Soap Lake Police also posted an update on the impact on their Facebook page Monday.
