SR28/White Trail Road Collision Results in Fatality, Five Children Injured
Icy conditions once again led to a fatality accident on White Trail Road Monday evening, this time at the intersection with State Route 28.
According to the Washington State Patrol, just before 6:00 pm a 2005 Dodge Caravan driven by 37-year-old Sarah E Scheid of Warrenton, Oregon slid off of the road into the eastbound ditch of SR28, five miles west of Quincy.
A semi truck driven by 57-year-old Lorenzo M Mendoza of Pasco then lost control and also slid into the ditch, striking the Caravan from behind.
One of the Caravan's six passengers, 64-year-old Lynn M Coffman of Tacoma, died at the scene.
The other five passengers were all children. An 11-year-old girl was transported to Harborview Medical Center with undisclosed injuries, while two other girls ages seven and five and two boys, a twelve-year-old and a four-month-old, were injured and taken to Quincy Valley Hospital, as was both drivers.
The incident is still under investigation, although Washington State Patrol Trooper John Bryant says impairment was not a factor in the collision.
