YWCA NCW and the Wenatchee Valley College Department of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are presenting the 5th annual Stand Against Racism starting Tuesday.

Executive Director Rachel Todd said the purpose of the national YWCA event is for communities and leaders to make public declarations that they are actively working to fight racism.

"This year we are centering most of our discussion around the inequities within COVID-19." stated Todd, "From the communities that have been most affected by COVID-19, the way that vaccine distribution has happened, and discrepancies within groups that the vaccine has been distributed to."

Local activist and speaker Teresa Zepeda will start off the week of events Tuesday at noon with a webinar on the effects of COVID-19 on the LatinX community. The presentation will be in Spanish and an English translator will be available. Registration can be found here.

A panel of local experts will speak on racism in health outcomes via Zoom Wednesday at 6:00 pm. Registration can be found here.

An anti-racism march is scheduled for Thursday. Participants will meet at 4:00 pm at the YWCA Thrift Store on North Wenatchee Avenue before marching to Memorial Park. Mayor Pro tem Mark Kulass will read and sign a Stand Against Racism Proclamation on behalf of the City of Wenatchee.

Another anti-racism march is scheduled for Friday in Omak, also at 4:00 pm. For more information, go to ywvancw.org.
