The Washington State Patrol is honoring one of its fallen troopers with ties to Leavenworth.

It's showcasing Trooper Jim Saunders on its Facebook page, who died after being shot during a traffic stop in Pasco in 1999.

Saunders' family moved to Leavenworth where he graduated from Cascade High School and received an Associate’s Degree from Wenatchee Valley College in the late 1980's.

He was awarded the Medal of Honor by the State Patrol a year after his death.

The State Patrol has a page on its website called "Fallen Officers", which showcases troopers and patrolmen who died in the line of duty dating back to 1923.
