U.S. Census Hiring for 2020

The U.S. Census Bureau is currently emphasizing hiring neighborhood canvassers for the upcoming 2020 census.

Steve Matule of the Census Bureau said the only requirement for those looking to apply is to be a U.S. citizen over 18 years of age.

"Their responsibility will be to go through a training process." explained Matule, "Then, working in their own neighborhood still, go door to door, taking the census forms that will be given to (the residents). (The residents) will fill out the forms, then the (census employee) will compile the forms and send them in."

The pay isn't too bad, either.

"Compensation is $14.50 an hour, and 58 cents a mile for car usage." added Matule, "It's a variable work schedule. It's part time; they're on their own. They'll be working in their own neighborhood."

The application process should take four to six weeks because of a background check.
