Wenatchee River Institute & Audubon Invite Community to a 120 Year Science Project

Wenatchee River Institute and NCW Audubon Society are inviting the community to the 120th Audubon Christmas Bird Count next Tuesday, December 17. From 9-1, bird enthusiasts, amatuer scientists or interested community members can join the longest running community science bird project.

"NCW (Audubon Society) is organizing a bunch of different Christmas Bird Counts in North Central Washington and WRI is partnering with Audubon to lead the walk that's happening in a section of Leavenworth," said Rachel Bishop, field educator.

The two entities will guide any experience level of birders, all ages welcome, on a Leavenworth Waterfront Trail route. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars and a notepad during the walk.

"Folks should come because this is a phenomenal citizen science project that has been going on for 120 years," said Bishop. "The data is used by Audubon and a bunch of other different scientists just to monitor bird populations and what they're doing this time of year."

Interested participants can meet at the WRI Campus on Division Street and are not required to stay for the entire walk.
