A Wenatchee woman is recovering in Central Washington Hospital after being seriously injured in a head-on car crash Monday morning on SR 243 north of Mattawa.

Trooper John Bryant said 62-year-old Lynda Burts was driving southbound in a Mazda CX-5 when she drifted into the northbound lane, striking a Chevy Impala head-on before being hit by a northbound Subaru Legacy.

"Post-collision all northbound lanes were blocked. The Mazda stopped about 25 feet off of the southbound shoulder. Burts was severely injured." explained Bryant, "She was airlifted to Central Washington Hospital (CWH) and still remains there."

Burts had to be rescued from her vehicle before she was taken via Life Flight to CWH. One other driver suffered a minor injury while the other was uninjured.

The cause remains under investigation. SR 243 was blocked for about 4 hours.
