The Eastmont Parks and Recreation Board got an update this week on the plan to reopen the aquatic center, and a survey regarding interest to do so.

Executive Director Sally Brawley says they are currently collecting needed supplies and getting their lifeguards ready.

"Once we accomplish certification for our lifeguards, then we will probably look out there and see where we are as far as COVID goes and make a determination. Those are the things that have to happen first."

The pool would be open limited hours, only for lap swim or water walking, and could only have six people at a time.

Brawley says there is a lot of setup at the facility that needs to happen as well.

"We've got to get our office computer up and running which we have ordered and has not come. We have to get a phone system in there which we're in talks with LocalTel, but that hasn't happened yet. We need to get our wifi hooked back up. Those are real safety issues. We can't have people in there unless we have the ability to call 911 if we need to."

Brawley says they are working on the aquatic center everyday and that it can open with limitations at any point during the rest of the year.
