The Waypoint Foundation will be hosting its 14th Scholastic Chess Tournament on February 1st in Ephrata, but registration is open now. Registration is open until January 31st at noon, however being limited to 100 spots, early registration is encouraged.

"Cash prizes for all top participants, with the top prize being $500," said Troy Pugh, trustee. "If we have more than 100 registrations, we will call those people that are above 100 to let them know there's a chance for them to get in, because we usually have some no shows."

Registration forms are available via Waypoint Foundation's website and can be dropped off at the foundation's office. This year's tournament also opened the door to a wider network of students and will allow all students K-12 in Grant County to participate.

"In previous years, it was limited to just a few schools in Grant County," said Pugh.

The tournament is held at Parkway School with check-in at 7:45 a.m. and opening ceremonies and first-round matches beginning at 8:30 a.m.
