The Chelan County Sheriff's Office arrested the ex-wife of a Cashmere man they believe was murdered in 1982.

Dawn M. Soles, who is also known as Dawn Schober, 57 of Leavenworth was arrested Friday, March 3rd, the same day another ex- husband, 60-year old Bernard Swaim of Sultan was arrested.  Both have been jailed on suspicion of first degree murder in the death of Stephen E. Smith of Cashmere who disappeared in July, 1982  His body was never found but his car was located on Dead Man's Hill  a few days after he was reported missing on July 18th that summer.

In a probable cause affidavit,Sheriff's Office investigators allege on or near the date of July 12th, 1982, Soles and Swaim killed Smith so that Soles could gain custody of the 2 year old child she had with Smith.  Soles was granted supervised visitation for one weekend per month, her ex-husband Stephen Smith had full custody.
