An attempted traffic stop in Wenatchee turned into a standoff in a residence in East Wenatchee early Friday morning.

Wenatchee Captain Edgar Reinfeld said an officer attempted to pull over 26-year-old Mitchell Figueroa-Ibarra of Wenatchee just before midnight Thursday when he took off in a 2018 Honda Civic and drove over the George Seller Bridge.

"The vehicle went up onto baker and then up onto the 200 block of 5th street NE. The driver then ran into an apartment." added Reinfeld, "We learned almost immediately that the apartment resident did not know this driver who ran into their house and was holing-up in their house."

Once the resident their children were safely outside, a standoff ensued.

The standoff lasted around an hour before Figueroa-Ibarra surrendered about 1:00 am Friday.

Eventually Figueroa-Ibarra surrendered and was taken to the Chelan County Jail on felony attempting to elude and an outstanding warrant. Additional charges are expected from the home invasion, and a search warrant on his vehicle is pending.
