Chelan and Douglas counties are starting the process to shuffle around the responsibility of issuing contracts for homeless funding.

This comes in response to the city of Wenatchee announcing that the city will step down from the contracting agency role. The city has managed the homeless funds for Wenatchee, East Wenatchee, Chelan County and Douglas County since 2011.

"After ten years of looking at this, there's been some philosophical changes with regards in how to tackle this," said Chelan County Commissioner Kevin Overbay. "That's coming back to the counties so the counties will be handling that element."

The counties have roughly three months to nail down the reorganization of handling the funds. The counties will consider contracting agency options, such as the idea of entering into an interlocal agreement with one county managing the funds.
