Waste Management alerted the city of Cashmere that glass is no longer a recyclable product. Waste Management is encouraging cities like Cashmere to alert the public as to what is recyclable in today's market.

"The market for glass is essentially all but disappeared, recycling glass is no longer done," said Cashmere Mayor Jim Fletcher. "It's going to have to go to the garbage stream rather than the recycling stream."

The recycling market has changed over the course of a decade with some plastics and now glass no longer accepted. Though the products are still recyclable, the products don't bring in the same price for the recycling companies.

"Waste Management is supposed to be rolling out an education program, get new stickers on garbage cans," said Fletcher.

Waste Management has been working with the city of Wenatchee on the same process as well.
