City of Chelan Holds Hearing for Amendment to Zoning Code for Wineries
The city of Chelan held a public hearing Tuesday evening to discuss the Planning Commission's recommendation for a text amendment to the zoning code for wine tasting rooms, cottage wineries and wineries.
The text amendment would allow for wine tasting rooms to be permitted within the Tourist Accommodation zoning district as well as cottage winery and wineries allowed as a conditional use permit.
"The TA zone is where we want to see tourist related activities happen," said Craig Gildroy, planning director. "Currently in the code, restaurants with cocktail lounges are an allowed use and so is public or private assembly are an allowed use. Those two uses are very similar to a winery and a wine tasting room."
No decision was made by council, however the council will take action at a future meeting.
