Tuesday night, the City of Chelan council approved Mayor Mike Cooney to finalize and execute a purchase sale agreement for a chunk of land that will be designed for public access and open use. The property is 9.5 acres at Spader Bay.

"This is a shoreline area, pretty rugged. We see it as a potentially a viewshed, an area where you can view a natural area from the lake or look out from this natural area, most likely if you hike or bicycle to it," said Mike Jackson, city administrator.

Due to the rarity of shoreline property in Chelan, the city was eager to explore every opportunity.

"The offer from the city is $400,000 and of course, we don't yet if the seller will accept the offer, we're working through their real estate agent," said Jackson.
