City of Quincy Moves Into Partnership for Eastmont Aquatic Center
The Quincy City Council will consider an interlocal agreement with Eastmont Metropolitan Parks District for use of the Eastmont Aquatic Center at Tuesday's council meeting.
The interlocal agreement would be an exchange of services between the two local entities.
"With our pool being shut down this year and not being able to do anything with our staff, what our thought is, is to go up there this fall, winter and try and get some of our staff back in the water," said Russ Harrington, recreation director.
Since the district has recently taken back over the aquatic center from YMCA, Eastmont Metropolitan Parks is in need of staff due to prior lifeguards being YMCA lifeguards. Quincy has a member of its staff, a almost 20 year veteran of aquatics, that could train their staff. Quincy also needs to train its staff before the upcoming summer, however the city's pool is closed due to COVID-19 restrictions.
"It's to help both of us out to just allow us to train our staff...but then to also get some new trainees and new instructors with the Eastmont Metro Parks District," said Harrington.
