Crews Fight East Wenatchee Arborvitae Fire Tuesday Morning

Crews from Douglas County Fire District 2 battled a fire along a 75-foot stretch of arborvitae early Tuesday morning in the 400 block of Stoneridge Drive in East Wenatchee.

PIO Kay McKellar said firefighters initially responded to a call of a structure fire after nearby residents noticed a glow and flames. Upon arrival, crews discovered an arborvitae hedge and other garden materials on fire.

"It's just a reminder to folks that having certain types of growing materials close to a residence could cause a problem." said McKellar, "However, the structure was not damaged."

The fire was in mop-up by 3:00 am. There were no injuries and the cause remains unknown.
