Data Shows Drop in New Cases of COVID-19 in North Central Washington

Covid-19 hospitalizations are at a record high in North Central Washington, but new cases of the virus could be on a different trend.

Numbers from Chelan Douglas Health District show new cases have leveled off in the past week and are slightly down since then.

Health District data shows the level of new cases started to rapidly rise in early July after reaching a pandemic low.

But the district’s latest update from Wednesday shows new cases actually fell by 5 percent.

Figures in the latest update show there were 1231 new cases during a 14-day period, a drop from 1,235 reported a day earlier by the Health District, and by 1,299 from September 3.

The rate was 997.5 cases per 100,000 people in the latest report vs, 1052.6 per 100,000 on September 3.

Numbers from the New York Times show an even more dramatic swing. Data from the Times show a 19 percent decrease in new cases over the past 14 days in Chelan County, and a drop of 8 percent in Douglas County.

Washington State overall has experienced a 2 percent increase in new cases during the last 14 days, according to the New York times.
