The city of Leavenworth and the community advocacy organization, the Friends of Leavenworth, have expressed concern for a 63 acre residential development project proposal. The property is immediately east of Leavenworth's Urban Growth Area.

"The proposal..(is) to change the designation from a commercial agriculture, which is 10 acres lot size minimum, to a rural residential 2.5 acre designation," said Bob Bugert, Chelan County commissioner.

Both the city and the organization share concerns that stem from traffic impacts and sprawl issues that the project could prompt. According to Bugert, the Planning Commission evaluated the proposal based on the Growth Management Act and recommended approval.

"So we will look at that ourselves. We've been given quite a few briefings related to this and we are scheduled to make a determination March 3rd," said Bugert.
