Douglas County PUD commissioners gave staff the nod of approval to apply for grant funding to support next generation broadband service in rural parts of the county. The county is looking to the Public Works Board for the funding.

"A lot of Douglas County is considered a rural area, but specifically we are hoping to solve that last little stretch along Highway 17, in eastern Douglas County, that's been a costly place to get to," said Meaghan Vibbert, public information officer.

Next generation broadband service is an ultra-high-speed broadband network run on fiber optics.
