East Wenatchee Partnering with Douglas County to Cleanup Unauthorized Camps
The city of East Wenatchee entered into an agreement with Douglas County to remove unauthorized camps, predominantly along the Apple Capital Loop Trail.
City Attorney Devin Paulson says the County identified 34 total spots that need to be addressed.
"This is a way to enter into an agreement with them to allow them to help clean up the hot spots along the trail and get it looking nicer than it is right now."
Of the 11 highest priority locations, five are below 3rd Street.
Paulson says it comes at no cost to the city, but the County did need permission.
"We're not paying Solid Waste to do anything, but they have the resources and the skills and the expertise to do it. Essentially they volunteered to clean up the city's portion of the trail."
Paulson says there are some legal challenges when it comes to cleaning up those encampments, but they believe they addressed any potential concerns in their agreement.
