A couple of striking and thought-provoking exhibits on the 9/11 attacks are on display in and around the Eastmont Junior High Library.

Librarian Kim Spradlin said she tried to re-create one wall of the 9/11 Memorial in New York City just outside of the library. The display is complete with books students check out to learn more about the 9/11 attacks, posters depicting the event and aftermath and two columns made of the names of all 2,977 victims.

"I think any time you can see names of people who actually were killed in something like this it just makes it so much more personal." explained Spradlin, "It helps you remember that every one of those lives lost had a name, they had a job, they had a family and friends who love them and miss them."

Spradlin also created a detailed silhouette of the New York skyline complete with the Twin Towers. She said she is lucky to work in a beautiful library with big windows.

"A few years ago I started creating silhouettes three or four times a year for different displays. I thought this would just be a perfect situation for that because of the New York skyline." continued Spradlin, "I thought that would fit perfectly in the window."

Spradlin, who was a history and English teacher for 23 years years at Eastmont High School before moving to her librarian position, added that she was raised in a family that valued history. When discussing the shock of the September 11th attacks, Spradlin recalled her mother telling her about the shock she felt as a teenager when president John F Kennedy was assassinated.

Also found in the hallway display is a quote from the Roman poet Virgil. It is the same words that are featured in the 9/11 Memorial in New York. They read:

"No day shall erase you from the memory of time."
