Eastmont School District Prepares for Online Start to Fall Semester
The first draft of Eastmont School District's start up plan was presented to the board and entails remote online learning for all students for the upcoming fall. The shift from in person instruction to online instruction stemmed from a conversation amongst the regional superintendents, NCESD superintendent, Chelan-Douglas Health District and Confluence Health physicians.
"Based on the numbers that were presented with increasing COVID-19 cases, the direction we were given was not to proceed the planning for on campus instruction," said Garn Christensen, superintendent. "Rather look at a remote start and then be prepared, as soon as safely possible, to move to on campus."
Eastmont School District isn't a stranger to online, remote program and has offered a remote program for secondary level students for quite a while. According to Christensen, the district is working on extending that program to all student levels.
"We would hope that parents would be patient and understand, just as they're experiencing something very different as families, so are we," said Christensen. "I can say 100% the educators, not just at Eastmont, but across Central Washington, are working as hard as possible to make sure we got the best possible education as we work to engage all students from preschool to seniors."
