Fire in Southern Douglas County Now 100% Contained
The brush fire in southern Douglas County near Trinidad is now 100% contained.
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) handed control of the fire back to Douglas County this morning.
Douglas County Fire District 2 (DCFD 2) Public Information Officer Kay McKeller said the fire, burning primarily in grass, is currently being patrolled by the county.
"No structures were lost and no injuries were sustained by civilians or members of the fire service." McKeller stated, "At this time the fire is estimated to have burned about 800 acres."
DCFD 2 responded to a report of a fast-moving brush fire at SR 28 and milepost 20 just before noon on Tuesday and quickly called in help.
"We did have this fire go to a second and third alarm, which provided resources from our neighboring fire departments." added McKeller, "With the use of the resources that were brought in from Chelan County (Fire District) 1, Orondo, Cashmere, Chelan County Fire District 6, Leavenworth, Chelan, Entiat, and including BLM and DNR, they were able to knock down the fire pretty good."
Two helicopters from Yakima also aided efforts on the ground. The BLM released all of the night resources just before midnight Tuesday.
Although there were some houses and power lines in the area, there were never any evacuation notices issued, nor were there any road closures.
According to a press release from DCFD 2, the exact cause of the fire is under investigation. According to the Central Washington Interagency Communication Center, the fire is believed to be human-caused.
