A brush fire near Trinidad in Douglas County has grown to between 800 and 900 acres as of Tuesday evening.

Initially, a call came in around midday Tuesday that a 10 to 15 acre brush fire was burning near State Route 28, milepost 20. By the afternoon the fire a grown significantly, burning primarily in grass.

Central Washington Interagency Communications Center Assistant Manager Jonathan Nash said resources from the Department of Natural Resources, Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service are all assisting. Crews from Grant County Fire District 3 are also helping firefighters from Douglas County.

"(Firefighters) are going to be focused on just getting everything contained and for forward rate of spread to stop this evening." explained Nash, "I think they're making good progress from what we last heard. We will probably have firefighters out there for most of the evening, if not all evening."

Some houses and power lines are in the area, although as of 6:45 pm Tuesday no homes are believed to be immediately threatened. There have also been no road closures or evacuations.

A containment number has yet to be released.

The fire is believed to be human-caused and is under investigation.
