A homeowner and his house are safe after a burn pile got out of control and started a brush fire in the 4500 block of Navarre Coulee Road in Chelan County Wednesday afternoon.

Entiat Fire Department Chief Adam Jones says two brush trucks and a water tender were dispatched to the blaze around 1:15pm. Crews then arrived to a 50 foot by 20 foot fire smoldering in some grass.

"When you want to burn something up there, just check the weather if you can or just watch the winds," Jones said, "He probably would have been just fine burning today but the winds came up and I don't think he was expecting that."

A rule from the Washington State Department of Ecology says outdoor burning is prohibited anytime winds exceed ten miles per hour.

There were no injuries and crews left the scene about an hour later.
