Forest visitors heading into the Okanogan Wenatachee National Forest should dress accordingly for the freezing temperatures and also factor in wind chill. Wind chill is the temperature it “feels like” outside and is based on the rate of heat loss from exposed skin caused by the effects of wind and cold.

"Wear layers of loose-fitting, lightweight, warm clothing. Trapped air between the layers will help insulate you," said Robin DeMario, public affairs specialist. "Outer garments should be water repellent and tightly woven to protect against the wind, also, wear waterproof boots, gloves, a warm face mask, and a hat."

DeMario adds it's always best to stay safe and remain indoors if it is super cold.
