Residents in the Rock Island area can take advantage of a free smoke alarm installation event this Saturday.

The event is being put on by the American Red Cross as part of their national Red Cross Home Fire Campaign aimed at reducing fire deaths and injuries across the country.

Volunteers and members of Douglas County Fire District 2 will be making scheduled, 20-minute visits to area homes from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. They will also be sharing information on the causes of home fires, their prevention, and creating an escape plan.

For more information or to schedule a free appointment, call Douglas County Fire District 2 at (509) 884-6671.
