Grant County Sheriff's Office announced that a handful of recent Ephrata and Quincy haystack arson fires have caused staggering financial losses for farmers. In 2019, there have been 14 fires involving haystacks in Grant County, which amounts to several thousand bales of hay.

"The monetary value is still being calculated but certainly a significant loss to area farmers who are growing," said Kyle Foreman, public information officer.

Some of the haystack fires were a result of coincidental misfortune, such as spontaneous combustion, however some of the haystack fire causes are suspicious.

"We're asking the public to keep an eye out for any suspicious vehicles that are around haystacks, especially at night and to call 911 if they notice any suspicious activity," said Foreman.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office is offering a $5000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible.
