The Chelan PUD has its next General Manager lined up after its Board of Commissioners unanimously selected current Managing Director of Generation and Transmission Kirk Hudson for the role Monday.

Hudson has been with the PUD for the last 24 years, starting as an engineer. He's filled roles that include project management, electrical distribution, customer service, water and wastewater, wholesale telecommunications, distribution and transmission.

"I had a lot of different experiences." Hudson said, "I'm really grateful for the opportunity the district has given me to learn about the operation of the PUD and understand a great deal of the operations here."

Hudson also led the formation of the Hydropower Research Institute in 2018. Chelan PUD describes the institute as "a data-driven collaborative aimed at driving the digital transformation of hydropower.

Board President Randy Smith described Hudson's love for his community as a powerful asset that one can't just buy.

"The depth and breadth of background with our utility, his knowledge of the people of our hydro projects, his knowledge across the utility about all things going on were just powerful draws," Smith stated.

Smith added the fact that Hudson already has the respect of many PUD employees as one of the many reasons he was chosen for the job.

Hudson begins his tenure as the PUD's 13th General Manager January 1st.
