Governor Jay Inslee's office responded to calls by various law enforcement agencies across Washington State asking for a special session of the legislature to adjust and further define many of the newest policing laws.

In a statement, Press Secretary Mike Faulk said, "We strongly disagree with some of the interpretations of these new laws coming from some localities, and efforts are underway to provide more education on what these policies do. We remain open to listening to people’s criticisms but, when applied appropriately, these laws will improve both accountability and public safety."

The new laws went into effect in late July and establish new standards across several aspects of policing.
