"Sunset and Moonrise on the Great Chief", a historic 1894 painting by James Everett Stuart, will be the star of an August live virtual unveiling for Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center members and donors.

Public Relations Coordinator Ashley Sinner said the painting previously called the museum home, but in late 2019 it was removed and shipped to Redmond for restoration.

"It was supposed to come back this spring when the restoration work was completed. However, the return was delayed because of the COVID-19 closures." explained Sinner, "It just came back to the museum yesterday, so that was very exciting."

Before the painting was property of the museum, it spent a long time hanging in the lobby of the Cascadian Hotel.

"Sunset and Moonrise on the Great Chief" was restored at least once before; in San Francisco around the 1950's. Stuart's work also spend some of its lifetime hanging in the Tacoma area.

The virtual unveiling will be Tuesday, August 4th at 7:00 pm.

The museum raised $17,365 for the restoration project.
