Crews from Chelan Fire & Rescue responded to reports of a structure fire in the 200 block of South Evergreen Street in Chelan just after 3:15 Monday afternoon.

Lieutenant Tye Zacher said a neighbor made the call after seeing smoke coming out of a door of the home.

"When we got there, from our vantage point it looked like it could be just a fire in a chimney." explained Zacher, "But as we came up the long driveway and made access to the home, fire was coming out of the eaves. We were able to get our engine up to the house and extinguish the fire that was isolated to the kitchen, but smoke had filled the entire residence."

There were no occupants in the home at the time. It took firefighters about an hour and a half to knock down the fire and mop up.

Zacher added that the home is probably a complete loss, but that won't be known until investigators properly assess the scene Tuesday.
